Current Obsession: Ace of Cakes

I’ve recently become addicted to cable TV shows involving cakes, mostly on the Food Network. I briefly considered dropping out of college in hopes of working in shops like these until I thought about it more and realized these people actually have artistic talent, which is why the cakes look so amazing! Most, if not all, of my dreams are crushed at the realization I am not artistically gifted. At least watching these shows makes me appreciate these pastry chefs. Oh yeah I want a cake from one of these places at some point in my life. This point is probably not in the near future because I imagine they cost lots and lots of money.

Special K Diet

Special K Original, originally uploaded by Kellogg’s Press Office UK.

I’m on the Special K Diet. I’m supposed to eat it twice a day with one normal meal as well. I’m also supposed to eat Special K products as snacks, but I’ve decided to not do this because Number 1: I’m too poor and Number 2: I would much rather eat fruit. So far I haven’t noticed any difference but it’s only been one week. I have been feeling a little dizzy, but that might just be the bad air quality at my job. We’ll see. I should start a diary a la Bridget Jones to keep track and hopefully be as witty.

Children at Dairy Queen (1957), originally uploaded by dogwelder.

Last night one of my roommates and I were being lazy, unproductive college students and sitting in our living room watching America’s Next Top Model, the beginning of 90210, the end of Rush Hour 2, and all of Make Me a Super Model. Some of our observations included: alot of the girls on this season of ANTM look like the ones in other seasons and Jackie Chan doesn’t seem to know what is going on during the bloopers.
Well, somewhere in between all these shows we realized we were getting hungry. Then a Dairy Queen commercial came on talking about the new specials they were offering. It was at that moment that we were both persuaded to go to Dairy Queen. Unfortunately, out of the four roommates, we’re the two that don’t have cars. Grreeaatt. So we calmed our hunger by eating Tostitos, but after seeing the delicious things available at Dairy Queen we really really wanted to go.
My immediate roommate got home and I told her that if she took us to Dairy Queen, I would buy her something. Then we embarked on a quest to find the nearest Dairy Queen to us. Lazy college students that we are, we did not get up to go to our computers to look one up. I did it on my blackberry and my roommate did it on her iPhone. After 15 minutes of trying she finally found all the Dairy Queens within a 50 mile radius. Yes we were willing to go that far. We proceeded to call all their numbers only to find that they closed (mostly at 9 and it was already 11). We quenched our hunger for the deliciousness that escaped us by 2 hours with cookies and oranges.
I think we might go today … at least I hope so.

I’m a bad Mexican

and here’s why:

  1. I can’t eat spicy food. It’s pretty sad considering all I ever eat back home is Mexican food. The closest I’ve ever gotten to eating a jalapeno is eating the carrots. Even that’s hard. At least I’m not allergic to cilantro like my friend Ben is. Luckily he’s not Mexican.
  2. I’m not close to my extended family who is basically an entire small village in Mexico.  They talk too much about people and they’re such hypocrites. I’m not perfect, but at least I try to mind my own business and give people the benefit of the doubt.
  3. I don’t like corridos. Some of them are so vulgar and the other ones I can do without. It also doesn’t help that there’s almost no new material just “bands” making “corridos” out of established pop songs. My ears bleed when I hear Tiziano Ferro and Pepe Aguilar’s beautiful “Mi Credo” massacred by God knows who.
  4. I like British indie music more than the above. Then again in LA most concert attendees are Latino/a so I guess some of them have to be Mexican too.
  5. I’m not really attracted to Mexicans. I can see the hottness of Mexican boys too but they’re just not for me. I like white boys (in skinny jeans please). My friend said this means I hate myself, but I beg to differ. Honestly who doesn’t like something exotic? To a Mexican, White is exotic. My Nina has no problem with it, she even told me she knows I’m not going to marry a Mexican.
  6. I don’t eat tortillas unless I’m eating a quesadilla or a burrito and even then I take off the excess tortilla bits.

This list came about after me downing  a bottle of Naked Juice in less than 5 minutes because my Chipotle Chicken sandwich had a little too much Chipotle in the Chipotle Mayo.
